Savanna Georgia

Georgia on our minds! Beautiful city, old Savannah is. We took a trolley tour of the downtown and got a good feel for this historic district. The weather was H & H again (hot & humid) so we didn’t really feel much like exploring the streets, squares, churches or old homes on foot – enjoyed the incredibly well preserved old wrought iron work on homes, the luscious green gardens and the 23 squares that provide a wonderful green belt feeling throughout the city. We had a great lunch down on the Savannah River Front and tasted some beer at the Moon River Brew Pub. Savannah is definitely somewhere to be re-visited in cooler weather and with a bit more time.
Our next day we spent driving out to Fort Pulaski National Monument, we walked through the ruins of this fort right on the Savannah River. We really have enjoyed visiting these National Parks/Monuments. Always makes me feel a bit ignorant about all of our history and what I never learned and certainly what I have forgotten. These stops are always good education for both of us. We then drove out to Tybee Island, saw their old light house and enjoyed the colorful little beach community. Felt a bit like some of our coastal towns a few years ago.
The campground we stayed at was on Skidaway Island State Park, and the most beautiful that we have been in so far. The spaces were huge and with lovely big oak trees covered with the trademark Spanish moss. We weathered a pretty good rainstorm our last night, but were very fortunate to not have been near where the terrible tornadoes hit.
We are heading west again and into Atlanta. We will visit our nephew Scott and see some of the sights we have on our itinerary.

  1. You should have gone to Wet Willy's! Oodles of Margaritas on tap. They are like slurpee machines. It got me into trouble a few years back on the 4th of July
