Dallas, Fort Worth, and Snyder Texas
Grand Prairie Texas was our stop for the next 2 nights; the RV Park was outside of Trader’s Village, the BIGGEST swap meet/flea market that we had ever seen. Was just a little bit tempted to go in and see what they had, but realized we really need nothing, so why go get something we have to figure out how to get home? Saturday we went in and spent the afternoon visiting Dallas; a very attractive city, with buildings of a huge variety designs and styles; an interesting mix of old and new architecture. The high light of our visit was the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza (just a little building next to a grassy knoll); it chronicled the life, death and legacy of President John F. Kennedy. The exhibit features films, historic footage, hundreds of photos and artifacts that covered JFK’s campaign, days in office and the tragic assassination in Dallas.
Day # 2 of the D/FW area, (Mothers’ Day) we spent sightseeing in Forth Worth, the smaller brother, we thought nicer of the twin cities. We enjoyed the viewing the Museum of Modern Art, a big variety of contemporary art; our favorite were the two stainless steel tree sculptures (titled Con-joined) next to a very cooling and beautiful reflecting pond. Mike treated me to a bit of a brunch in the café where we enjoyed a unique martini called “A Jar of Olives Falling” (named after a painting on display): vodka, gin and Le Lay with a twist and 2 olives, very smooooth. We then set off on a bit of a walking tour around a few blocks of downtown. The weather being quite warm, we topped off our tour with a cool beverage and snacks on the 4th floor patio bar at the Reata. The best margarita on this trip!! It was made with lime/habanero syrup that really kicked it up a notch, gotta find that stuff!
Our drive today was about 250 miles west and Mike earned his MoHo driving badge, battling strong gusts of wind most of the day. Not much fun but we finally made it to our stop in Snyder Texas. What can we say about this part of Texas? The manager of the minimal RV Park was very friendly and the air conditioning worked well. We pretty much “holed” up inside against the 101+ windy degrees; going out to exercise and the take care of the “Boys Business”, quickly returning to the cool inside the MoHo. Thank goodness the AC continues to work well. We once again were victims of “dumb luck”. On a morning break at a rest stop, we stepped outside and were almost hit with a shroud that covers our rear AC. The wind had just whipped it off and almost on top of us, BUT we were able to rescue it. Gee we are lucky!! The fun just keeps coming.
